Corrective Exercise
The goal with corrective exercise is to be able to move freely with no pain. This happens when you create balance in the stabilizing and dynamic muscles so they do their job to help glide bones through proper movement at the joints. This also creates proper load bearing through the bones, which in turn creates positive effects on bone density.
This starts with neuromuscular re-education - small gentle movements that are designed to help establish the neurological pathways for muscles to fire and reminding them of the proper tension to maintain your joints neutral to gravity. Frequently, corrective exercise begins with exercises done lying on the floor, if possible. It is then progressed to more complex exercises, and then finally external load bearing. All this must be practiced by incorporating these correct movement patterns into everyday life. This for anyone who has overuse injuries, is recovering from a traumatic injury or surgery, or is being released from physical therapy and encouraged to continue their progress. It's tremendous for seniors who have lost some mobility, stability and/or coordination from inactivity or simply a lifetime of accumulated compensations that we all tend to develop. |

Testimonials
Al Radick, San Diego, CA 2006 - "Training with Allyson was a joy because she made me want to do the work. No one else was ever able to get into my head like she did, and in fact she's still there! She even got me to want to train with kettlebells even though they were a love-hate relationship for me. Her motivational skills are truly a gift, a gift that she most generously shared with me. I will always be grateful for that."
Denis Golemis, Rocklin, CA 2017 - "Wife Marie and I have reached the final rite of passage where unused muscles caused us to have difficulty getting up from chairs or the floor. The assisted living facility loomed. We needed exercise, but inertia is a heavy burden to overcome!
We hired Allyson Stilber as a personal trainer and improved so much that we did not have to complete this rite of passage just yet. Allyson’s (use of the) Muscle Balancing and Function System took us from doddering to dancing. She filled the gap between a physical therapist who is a medical specialist and costs a ton of money and us, who don’t have a ton of money.
We were fearful of hiring her, with visions of the 'No pain no gain!' approach that most personal trainers employ. Her approach started us with exercises that had us laying on the floor and flexing our core muscles. I thought, 'Hey, we can do this!' She never asked us to increase the repetitions of an uncomfortable exercise. She eased us into shape. We are now so far advanced that we sit in random chairs just to please ourselves about how easily we get up. If we fall, there is now no need to call for help yelling, 'Help, I’ve fallen and I can’t get up'. We can get up!
We’ve postponed the inevitable last rite of passage for two years now. Two years and counting. Like those Nike Ads say, 'Just Do It!' The alternative is too ugly to contemplate."
